Karthik Devaraj
PhD Student (August 2012 – February 2017)
Chemical biography
Karthik completed his B.Sc. in General Chemistry at St. Joseph’s College, Trichy, India. He then went on to do a M.Sc. degree at the National Institute of Technology in Trichy and wrote his thesis under the guidance of Dr. G. Venkatesa Prabhu.
He then went on to obtain his international Masters degree at the University of Rennes 1, France, where he worked in the group of Prof. Pierre Dixneuf and Prof. Christophe Darcel on Ru-catalyzed C-H functionalizations.
Karthik started his PhD in our group in August 2012. His doctoral research spanned new C-H functionalization reactions and the development of aryne-related methodology.
On 24th February 2017, Karthik defended his PhD thesis, entitled Ru-catalyzed C-H Functionalization of (Hetero)arenes, with Prof. Victor Snieckus serving as the opponent. In doing so, Karthik became the first student to obtain his PhD from our research group. Congratulations, Karthik!
For his first postdoctoral position, Karthik joined the group of Prof. Xavier Bugaut at the Institut de Sciences Moléculaires de Marseille. Subsequently, in 2019, Karthik joined the group of Prof. Cathleen Crudden at Queens University, in Kingston, Ontario.
